"I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see." ~John Burroughs

Vintage Dutch Postcards
Within my collection of vintage photos, I ran across these lovely ones from The Netherlands, before WWI (World War One). These were the everyday clothes of the people who lived there before the great technological, scientific and industrial breakthroughs of the 20th Century put us all the world over into blue jeans and sneakers.
Notice the skylight in the roof, and how the man stands before an open window to mend his nets? Before electricity, interiors were lit only at night, as people would not want to waste fuel by burning their oil or kerosene lamps during the day. In the old downtown parts of cities, you sometimes can still see the wells in sidewalks that were built to allow windows in basements of buildings.
